Seeds for the Earth
This weekend we headed out to a nearby town to help spread some wildflower seeds. With a decrease in the monarch butterfly and honeybee population some quick thinking folks decided that the best solution was to go out and plant our own wildflowers. The best part was that we didn't plant these seeds in a beautiful, ideal setting, we planted them right on the top of a landfill. These seeds will turn an area of ugliness into a habitat for bees, birds and butterflies.
Today we gathered with like-minded families to plant milk weed and Black Eyed Susan's. It was a bit cold, and a gloriously windy day and the milk weed seeds flew everywhere. It was one of those moments where the kid came out in all of us and Dave and I were sowing seeds long after the 'real' kids were bored.
It felt good to get out there and give back, even if it was only in our small, simple way.
