With Thanksgiving just a day away, and a lot of time spent giving thanks here in our home and around our table, we decided to talk about why we’re celebrating in the first place. The twins are just the perfect age to understand just a bit of history, and have asked about a million questions. To illustrate the process, we made these little walnut boats, died some rice blue with some food coloring, and made England and the United States with play dough. Hands down the favorite part was cracking and eating the nuts, although steering the boats through the rice was a close second. Giving them a physical way to act out history made the story come alive for them.
Dave gave me a hard time for building so many boats since the pilgrims arrived only on the Mayflower, but making the little boats was so fun We even went ahead later and made some ‘canoes’ with cracked almonds. (He wanted to make sure that I posted that we do know the correct number of boats in the Thanksgiving story - this was very important to him)
As we gather to give thanks, I will be gone from this space until at least Friday to fully take part in the festivities. I am truly thankful for each of you that visit here and follow along with us. Have a wonderful day and weekend, and I’ll see you back here soon!
