Garden Musings

The excitement of picking a pumpkin off a vine from a plant you grew from a seed is incredible, and if I feel excited, the little ones in my life are ecstatic.  Each day we are combing through our rapidly browning gardens for the little treasures: gourds, pumpkins, squash, tomatoes, cabbage, and almost brussel sprouts, and then sticking the more autumnal of these treasures around our home. Our house is quickly taking on an autumnal feel.

With just a short time until our first frost, we are enjoying the garden while we can, browns and greens and all.  I think one of the garden beds is ready to be cleared to get the fall garlic in, and after a little time away from the gardens, I'm looking forward to getting my hands dirty again. This will be our first year growing garlic and I am hoping I'm getting the right amount in the ground.

What's coming out of your garden theses days?

  1. We are nearing the end of our garden. Picked the last of the tomatoes, still eating kale and Swiss chard and some herbs. Squashes are being picked and there are a few eggplants still to enjoy. I managed to get the tomato bed cleaned out yesterday, hoping to get garlic planted soon.

    Your pumpkins looks great!

  5. Okay, I have some serious garden envy ~ those pumpkins are AMAZING!!! My daughter would go NUTS. Since pumpkins have to be planted in the middle of the summer, I always forget to plant them. I need to get my act together next year, clearly!
