Summer Dress

Last week I made a trip to the fabric store, and naturally came away with a whole lot of fabric that I couldn't do without - I could just imagine all those cute little projects unfolding.  I am really not a shopper and almost never buy clothes for myself or the kids, but there is something about fabric that I can't resist.  This dress is a result of this little splurge, and is such a loose, easy dress for my little summertime lady.  The pattern (here - from Blooms and Bugs) was such a quick sew that there are a few more dresses in line.  While I'm not a huge fan of dresses for crawlers, I made this one short enough that she can still get around, and I know it is only a matter of time (yikes) before Freja's walking.

With summer here (and the inevitable time spent out of doors and a very bald baby head), I've been anxious to find a hat that Freja would keep on her head.  I've been experimenting with different bonnets (and hopefully will be sharing a little tutorial here soon), and decided to put one together to go with the dress.  So far she keeps it on her head most of the time.

  1. Oh my, that dress. And that bonnet. And that fabric. So, so lovely!

  2. Hi Gretchen, I love your blog!

The bonnet is so precious! Did you use a pattern?
I'm the same way about fabric/shopping. I never shop for clothes, but get me in a fabric store and there could be trouble. There are so many possibilities with fabric - you just don't want to miss out on any of them!

    1. Thanks Sara! I made up the pattern, but will be sharing it here soon when I get a chance. I'm afraid my clothing closet it getting filled with fabric at the moment!

  3. I am with you, I am not a shopper, in fact unless it is grocery, thrift, yarn or fabric store I pretty much dislike shopping.

The dress and bonnet are gorgeous, and your little one is adorable :)
