First books

I love planning projects with my children, but even more, I love when projects fall out of nowhere and change the shape of our entire day.  Yesterday as part of creating Living and Learning Spaces in our home, I was just finishing sewing a VERY simple binding for a paper book during the twins quiet time when Hadley walked in and wanted to help.  Pretty soon I was helping Hadley sew down the center of her first book while Finley glued some homemade paper onto the front of his own book, and the afternoon was underway.

The idea of writing their own book was thrilling to the twins.  While they described their stories I did the best I could to use their own words to write out their story.  Then they each filled in their own book with pictures.  The books are silly, filled with rabbits, giraffes, Mary Poppins, merry-go-rounds, pirates and trains, but they are their own first books, and I have a feeling we will be reading everyday for quite some time!
