A Few New Things

In the last month or so, there have been some very fun and some very practical things coming off the sewing machine.  In addition to the kimono I wrote about a few weeks ago and the mobile, there have been party flags, a baby quilt, two new clothe diaper storage bags, reusable snack bags, and tote bags for sending the kids to their Montessori preschool.  The party flags have already been used several times.  It is wonderfully easy and festive to hang the flags and not worry about purchasing balloons or streamers. I love the reusable aspect as well as the money saving aspect of this project!

Along the same lines, I made these reusable snack bags.  They were SO easy and are perfect for snacks or sandwiches.  These particular bags were a gift, but we made a few for ourselves and have plans for making even more.  There are many tutorials and patterns online for similar bags if you do a simple search.  I made ours with a small flap and experimented with Velcro on a couple.

I am currently making an effort to make sure that baby number 3 has a few brand new handmade items to welcome it to the world.  I put this quilt together using fabric scraps I already had, and kept the pattern simple so the twins could help arrange the fabric rectangles.  Since the baby will be sleeping in the room with Dave and I, I selected blues and and oranges to go with our bedroom.

These tote bags are still a surprise for Hadley and Finley once the new baby comes.  Starting in Sept., the twins are starting a three morning a week Montessori Preschool.  These tote bags are for them to take to school to transport notes, a change of clothes, or whatever they may need.  Without knowing the purpose, they each picked out the fabric at the store, as well as the color for their name.  While I am starting to feel torn about the twins leaving home for school even just for a few hours a week, it will be slightly comforting to know that at least I am sending them off in style!

Not sure what project is next, maybe something gender specific when we meet the new little one!!

Are there any new projects at your home?
