My first post!

As I sit here watching the pesky Japanese Beetles swarming around our garden outside, I'm reminded of the long winter months spent watching the birds out the same window.  Here I sit in (dare I say) mid-July, with weeds to weed, grass to mow, a dog to walk, and bushes to clear, all things I couldn't wait to do when there was 3 feet of snow on the ground.  Yet somehow the slow pace of summer always gives way to temporary moments of calmness around our home, where you just sit watching the Japanese Beetles.

This spring we've watched our new home come alive with grasses and plants we love, and new ones we've never seen, we've seen birds return, and discovered wild apple trees and unexpected wetlands, and we've tried to balance taming the land and living in balance with the world around us.  Here we are carving out our own little spot.
